Toilets Don't Lead to Heaven (In Case You Didn't Know)
When my oldest son, Sjon-Paul, was two, he received a gold fish in Vacation Bible School. He named it Sam. Sam lived peacefully in his bowl on our kitchen counter. . . for about a week. Then I found him floating at the top of the tank.
Unceremoniously, I flushed him down the toilet while my toddler stood watching. Neither of us were particularly attached to Sam.
Later his grandma asked Sjon-Paul about Sam, and Sjon-Paul told her that Sam had died. “Oh Sam’s in Heaven,” said Ma.
We didn’t give Sam a lot more thought…until about a week later.
We were at the doctor’s office, and Sjon-Paul had a dirty diaper. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a changing table in the restroom. So, I took him into the bathroom stall and proceeded to do the job there. After changing his diaper, I flushed the contents down the toilet while my son was still pulling up his pants.
When he looked up and saw the empty diaper he asked, “Mom where did my poop go?” After explaining that I had flushed it down the toilet, he matter-of-factly responded, “Oh my poop go to Heaven to be with God!”
Thanks to Ma, I had to explain to my two-year-old that the toilet is not a direct route to Heaven.
But thanks to Christ, I was able to tell him the real way.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
Unfortunately, the world tells us that we can create our own way to God. The world tells us that we can live in the much and not face any consequences. But let me tell you, the only place the toilet leads is to the sewer!
We have a Savior who cleansed us from all our sin and offers the only direct route to Heaven and eternal life. “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
If you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I encourage you to seek one today. We aren’t guaranteed a tomorrow. So, don’t wait. If you have any questions or want to learn more, feel free to let me know. I would love to talk with you.
